Some color in a wintry world

The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon, is a novel that brings to life 18th century Maine as a midwife tends to the ills of her neighbors, some physical and others emotional, and deals with the early American legal system and its treatment of women. Please see “Reviews-Fiction.”

  1. I was surprised to see that half of the last six fiction novels reviewed were written by men. I haven’t read these books yet but wonder how fully male authors can portray the personal life struggles and intimate thoughts of a woman (as main character.)
